Flywheel Partners with Miami Students to Celebrate World Creativity & Innovation Week April 15-21

Flywheel is teaming up with Miami University students from the John Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Week the week of April 15th.  The week is dedicated to encouraging and empowering everyday creativity. Flywheel asked students from Miami University’s Farmer School of Business to talk about creativity and entrepreneurship.

Why Entrepreneurship for creativity and why Miami? Students at Miami are taught how to solve problems more effectively and problem solving often is creative. At Miami, it’s a driving force of the Entrepreneurship program. It’s hard work but an exciting and engaging opportunity.

Where do you see creativity playing out at Flywheel? Some of the most substantial and best concepts on Earth have come from innovators using creative ways of thinking about problems to generate ideas. For a start-up to stand out, they must be creative and passionate about their company's impact. Being committed to making a positive change that goes beyond the status quo while working tirelessly toward your goals is the heart of what makes a creative.

How do you plan to apply creative mindsets to your daily lives? We spent a lot of time thinking about the concept of ‘deferring judgment,’ which is incredibly important to creativity. Being able to set aside your doubtful and opinionated thoughts and continuing to build on your concept is how an idea can grow.

How does Flywheel inspire Miami students to be creative? After celebrating Startup Week with Flywheel in September, we were able to understand the characteristics most essential to a social enterprise becoming successful and sustainable. It’s inspiring to see how hard Flywheel works to help creative social entrepreneurs succeed. Flywheel’s ElevateEquity and SustainableCincy programs are a great home for creative minds plus, Flywheel supports women and Black led social enterprises. These underrepresented founders often struggle to find the support their creative idea deserves.

What have you learned about creativity and entrepreneurship that you would share with other young people.  Learn about yourself first. The way you work, when you can be most effective/efficient, what are your weaknesses and strengths and how can you use them to benefit you in amazing ways. Learning who you are is the first step towards inner growth and creative thinking.

Flywheel is delighted to partner up with Miami University students to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Week!  We are appreciative of their insights as well as their like-minded passion for creativity and social entrepreneurship.
